Leading South Coast trainer Bede Murray had a lot of fun with a horse called Sure and Fast back in the seventies and is having just as much fun with the modern day version who won the $385,750 Provincial Championships Final at Randwick last Saturday.
A three year-old gelding by Not a Single Doubt, Sure and Fast earned his berth in the lucrative race with a dominant win in the $100,000 Wyong qualifier and was sent out favourite for the 1400 metre final.
Well ridden by Jason Collett from gate two, Sure and Fast swept to the lead over the final furlong and made light of the heavy ground to score by a length.
A $60,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Middlebrook Valley Lodge draft for his trainer, Sure and Fast was foaled and raised at Newgate and has won four of 11 starts earning over $400,000 in prizemoney.
Sure and Fast is one of two winners from Regal Attraction, who comes from the family of Group I winners A Little Kiss, Rising Romance, Rebel Raider and Able One.
