The 2019 Magic Millions Yearling Sale has been producing some hot results this week with Newgate Farm starring at the top end of the market with a stunning I Am Invincible colt from Champagne Cath that made $1.1 million on Thursday.
Bred by Nick Vass and foaled and raised at Newgate, the colt was bought by Waller Racing/ Mulcaster Bloodstock and is the second foal of his dam who was trained by Chris Waller.
By Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense (USA), Champagne Cath won on debut at two and ended her career as a Group II placed stakes-winner of over $260,000 in prizemoney.
“I bought Champagne Cath as a yearling and she won her first start very impressively. We love the I Am Invincible factor and we thought he was a beautiful colt,” Mulcaster told ANZ Bloodstock News.
“We stretched our budget a little but luckily we managed to get him.”
The colt is the second foal of Champagne Cath, who was bought straight off the track for $300,000 at the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale in 2015.
“This is her second foal and honestly he is as good a foal as you could breed early on,” Newgate Farm general manager Bruce Slade told ANZ Bloodstock News.
“He has been a star of the show all the time and for anyone who looked at him, even in the back parade with all the chaos, he handled himself like a classy type of colt.
“I will follow his future with great interest and he gives me those little butterflies.”
Champagne Cath had a filly by I Am Invincible last spring and was one of 221 mares covered by Russian Revolution in his first season at stud last year.
Newgate Farm sold 25 yearlings in the first two sessions for $6,480,000 and the sale continues.
