Newgate Farm enjoyed spectacular success at the 2017 Magic Millions Yearling Sale selling 38 yearlings for $10,295,000 to be the second leading vendor by aggregate behind only Arrowfield Stud.
Newgate Farm achieved 100% clearance selling to a wide range of purchasers from all over the world and we wish everyone the very best of luck with their new acquisitions going forward.
Highlighting the draft were a colt and filly by leading sire Snitzel from the famed Shantha’s Choice family that has gained global currency in recent years and features champion sire Redoute’s Choice and Group I stars Manhattan Rain and Platinum Scissors.
A Snitzel filly from Your Life Style was bought by Rick Worthington as agent for Trevor Gluck of Tremon Thoroughbreds for $850,000 and a colt from Quench the Thirst made $750,000 when bought by Winstar Farm/ China Horse Club.
Rick Worthington told ANZ Bloodstock News that the filly had the look of an early runner with the pedigree to match.
“There’s a few avenues to look at and one was that you have to have an athlete. You can buy any pedigree you want but if you don’t have an athlete, you’re buying a pedigree and they don’t make racehorses,” Worthington said.
“The other part is that the owner wants to get a small group of top quality mares and it’s got to start with the athlete but you also need the pedigree and I think this filly fits the bill on both.”
WinStar Farm’s Elliott Walden told ANZ Bloodstock News the Snitzel colt had the conformation and pedigree to potentially become a stallion if successful during his racing career.
“He has the pedigree we look for worldwide and we are just really excited about this colt,” Walden said.
“The first time I saw him I really loved him and if he can run he will really have the goods.”
Your Life Style was bought by Newgate for $1.2 million at the Teeley Assets Dispersal in 2014 and Quench the Thirst from the same sale for $1.5 million.
Your Life Style produced a Snitzel filly last year and is now in foal to I Am Invincible, while Quench the Thirst had a colt foal by I Am Invincible last year and is now in foal to Sebring.
Another interesting sale for Newgate was the half-sister by Snitzel to Group I winner and $2million earner Awesome Rock, who was sold by Newgate at the 2013 Magic Millions for $575,000 to Spicer Thoroughbreds.
She was bought by Laurel Oak Bloodstock for $480,000.
