Newgate Farm sold the third highest priced mare during the opening session of the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale on Monday with Group III winner Pane in the Glass fetching $600,000 in foal to the farm’s exciting young sire Deep Field.
A seven year-old daughter of Testa Rossa that won nearly $700,000 in prizemoney and was also Group I placed, Pane in the Glass was secured by James Harron Bloodstock.
“She is a beautiful mare who ticked all the boxes,” Harron told ANZ Bloodstock News.
“Physically she is outstanding and had a race record to suggest she was absolute top calibre.
“She is a super outcross and her first foal was a cracking filly at Easter this year that sold very well. She has gone into very good hands in Tim Stakemire and Sheikh Khalifa.”
That filly, by Fastnet Rock, was purchased for $480,000 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and her second foal is a filly by Pierro.
“I thought the mating to Deep Field was exceptional and we are very excited to see what that produces. She has been purchased for one of the owners of Capitalist with a long-term view of being bred to Capitalist. We are delighted to get our hands on her,” Harron added.
From the family of Group II winning sprinter and sire Gold Brose, Pane in the Glass was one of 257 mares covered by Deep Field in his first season at Newgate last spring.
He was the busiest sire in Australia last year and stands at the same fee of $22,000 this spring.
