Debut 2YO Winner for Foxwedge

Thursday, July 27, 2017

It’s been a ground breaking season for Newgate Farm’s foundation sire Foxwedge, who will be crowned Australia’s leading second crop sire for 2016/2017 and added a promising debut two year-old winner to his tally on Wednesday.

Prepared by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, Baduzzi made her debut in the 1100 metre maiden at Echuca with very little fanfare and emerged a smart winner.

She mustered speed from an inside gate to work forward and find the fence before forging clear at the top of the straight.

She kicked strongly to the line for Michael Walker to hold off all challengers and win by three-quarters of a length.

A $110,000 NZB Premier purchase for her trainers from the Curraghmore Stud draft, Baduzzi runs for a syndicate that includes Newgate Farm’s Henry Field, who bred the filly in partnership.

She is the seventh winner from seven to race from good producing stakes-winning Gold Brose mare Golden Pedigree.

Baduzzi is the 51st Australian winner for Foxwedge this season and is his ninth Australian two year-old winner.

With seasonal progeny earnings topping $3.5 million, Foxwedge has a clear margin over his rivals and is set to cover a full book of mares this spring at a fee of $22,000.
