Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds have tasted success at Group I level with Foxwedge filly Foxplay this season and were back in the winner’s circle at Canterbury on Wednesday with another promising daughter of the in-form Newgate Farm stallion.
Prepared by Chris Waller, three year-old filly Noire was second at her first two starts and broke the ice at the third time of asking.
Quietly ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, Noire was allowed to find her feet and loomed into contention out wide when turning for home.
She lengthened stride all the way to the post and took the 1100 metre maiden by three-quarters of a length running away.
A $135,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Star from the Highgrove Stud draft, Noire is a half-sister to stakes-placed Global Dream, Maraatib and Valoura.
She is the seventh winner from good producer Valadon, a half-sister to Group II winners Timbourina and Media.
Noire continues a hot run for Foxwedge, who is throwing down the gauntlet to So You Think in the battle to be leading Australian Second Crop Sire.
