Debut 2YO Winner for Foxwedge

Monday, June 5, 2017

A big baldy faced chestnut with a giant stride, this son of Foxwedge was featured in a Breednet Juvenile Trial Watch story last month and made a winning debut at Goulburn on Monday.

Trained by Gabrielle Englebrecht and ridden by Kathy O’Hara, Mad Fox showed the same gate speed he did in his trial, working forward quickly to take up the lead.

He tired gamely to the line to hold off a late challenge from the favourite Acquittal to win the 1000 metre open maiden by a short head.

A $70,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for his trainer, Mad Fox was bred by SF Bloodstock and is the fourth winner from four to race from Wild Soiree (USA), a half-sister to Group III winner Musidora, the dam of this season’s Golden Slipper place-getter and Group II winner Tulip.

Wild Soiree has a weanling filly by The Factor (USA) and was covered last spring by another of the Newgate sires in Super One.

Mad Fox is the 45th winner this season for Foxwedge, who leads the Australian Second Crop sires list with $3.2 million in earnings.
