From super racehorse to super sire, it’s shaping as a smooth transition for Newgate Farm’s Australian Horse of the Year Dissident, whose gorgeous first foals are being born this spring including these two cracking colts at Torryburn and Segenhoe Studs.
Peter O’Brien at Segenhoe Stud is delighted with the first foal of stakes-placed Bel Esprit mare Diamond Glow, who made $420,000 at the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale earlier this year.
“He’s a smashing colt with plenty of quality,” O’Brien commented.
Torryburn Stud Manager Melissa Copelin is equally pleased with their colt from good producing Tale of the Cat (USA) mare Belle Feline, the dam of stakes performers Zikmann, Anyaas and Manhattan Blues.
“He’s a big strong colt, we couldn’t be happier,” Copelin said.
A five-time Group I winning son of Sebring, Dissident was the consummate racehorse winning the Listed MRC Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) on debut at two before racing on to be lauded as the best racehorse in the country last year.
Dissident covered 197 mares last spring and is priced this year at $33,000.
