The $200,000 Magic Millions 2YO Classic at Wyong on Thursday was dominated by Capitalist, but the run of Foxwedge filly Aghna to finish a gallant third on debut was sensational.
A $50,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for her trainer Gabby Englebrecht, Aghna was a Rosehill trial winner on December 8 and did a great job to be the first filly home in this hotly contested event.
Bred by the late Dr Edmund Bateman and his wife Belinda and foaled and raised at Newgate Farm, Aghna is from Group III placed Encosta de Lago mare Moonboat, who comes from the family of Golden Slipper winners Canny Lad and Sepoy as well as Group I stars Camarena, Camarilla and Guelph.
She has the honour of becoming the first stakes horse for Newgate Farm’s foundation sire Foxwedge, who has 26 entries for Magic Millions 2016. Click here to see them.
