Northern Meteor’s record breaking son Deep Field is proving most attractive to broodmare owners with last week’s $1.1 million MM Broodmare Sale purchase Villa Verde a confirmed booking along with the dam of a highly prized Group I winner.
A Group II winning daughter of Not a Single Doubt, who was a brilliant spring two year-old stakes-winner, Villa Verde was an early favourite for the Golden Slipper of her year.
“She had an extraordinary physique,” said James Bester, who bought the dashing grey on behalf of Kia Ora Stud, who raced Deep Field in partnership with Alan Bell and retain an interest.
Another booking for Deep Field that is sure to help him off to a flying start is that of Newscaster, the dam of Group I ATC Queen of the Turf Stakes winner Amanpour, who sold at Magic Millions for $1.5 million.
Her dam was also sold at that sale for $550,000 to China Horse Club and it’s not hard to see why Deep Field would be an appealing option as he is a son of Amanpour’s sire Northern Meteor as is another of Newscaster’s three stakes-winners Sports Edition.
Deep Field will be fully booked at a fee of $22,000 this spring.
