A tenacious debut win at Newcastle on Thursday for two year-old filly Lubiton was the first leg of a winning double for juveniles raised at Newgate Farm.
Prepared by Bjorn Baker, Lubiton had won her only two previous trials and was sent out favourite for the 1200 metre maiden with Thomas Huet to ride from gate one.
The daughter of Snitzel jumped well and held the fence despite being taken on and pulled out plenty when it counted to defy all challengers and kick on for a half length win.
A $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Newgate Farm draft, Lubiton runs for Steve and Louise Gillard.
She was a successful pinhook for Newgate Farm, who snapped up the filly for $150,000 at the 2014 Inglis Australian Select Weanling Sale from the Bell View Park draft.
Bred by Bell View Park in partnership, Lubiton is the first foal of unraced Zabeel mare Rosa Stellata, a Zabeel daughter of Group I winner Camino Rose.
Winning the very next race in impressive fashion was the Gai Waterhouse trained Beneteau filly Prompt Response, who shed maiden status with a four and a half length victory.
Not beaten far in three previous starts, all in Black Type races, Prompt Response was a close second at her last run in the Group III ATC Percy Sykes Stakes, so was always going to be hard to beat in a maiden!
Retained to race by her breeder Ron Hammer, Prompt Response was foaled at Newgate and raised there until she was a yearling and is a sister to Group III winner Prompt Response.
Her dam Prompt was covered by Dissident last spring.
