New Stakes-Winner for Foxwedge

Saturday, April 29, 2017

An enthralling battle between Foxwedge and So You Think for supremacy on the Australian Second Crop Sires List got a little hotter on Saturday when Foxwedge added a fourth stakes-winner to his tally with a stylish win for Fox Hall in the Listed SAJC Nitshke Stakes.

The Tony McEvoy trained gelding had won twice previously and been consistent of late, but produced a career best performance to win the 1400 metre contest by a length.

The win takes his overall record to three wins and three seconds from eight starts with prizemoney topping $115,000.

A $170,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Edinglassie Stud draft for McEvoy Mitchell Racing, Fox Hall is the best of three winners from Val de Loire, a winning Montjeu (IRE) daughter of stakes-winner Greta Hall from the family of Group I winners Golden Sword and Royal Descent

Fox Hall becomes the fourth stakes-winner for Foxwedge and gives him a narrow lead over So You Think by earnings with both stallions holding a comfortable margin over their nearest rival Smart Missile.

A Group I winning son of Fastnet Rock, Foxwedge is priced attractively at $22,000 this spring.
