The official Sydney two year-old trials at Canterbury on Monday morning provided a great showcase for youngsters raised at Newgate Farm with five of our graduates finishing either first or second to gain an automatic start in the upcoming Listed ATC Breeders Plate and Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick next month.
A homebred for Mrs Belinda Bateman prepared by Peter and Paul Snowden, superbly bred Pierro filly Satin Slipper showed good race sense to settle off the pace and accelerate smoothly to the line to win comfortably.
Satin Slipper is the first foal of former brilliant Flying Spur filly Satin Shoes, winner of the Group II ATC Silver Slipper and a daughter of Group I winner Star Satire. Satins Shoes was raced by Mrs Bateman and her late husband Dr Edmund Bateman.
Satin Shoes has a yearling filly by Medaglia D’Oro (USA) and has already foaled this spring producing a filly by Written Tycoon.
Peter and Paul Snowden also sent out Snitzel colt Munich carrying the China Horse Club colours to an easy win. The handsome bay led throughout and gave a good kick to win by nearly two lengths.
A $750,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for WinStar Farm / China Horse Club, Munich was foaled and raised at Newgate and is a blueblood being from stakes-placed Encosta de Lago mare Quench the Thirst, a full sister to Group III winner Precious Lorraine and stakes-winner Lucky Raquie.
A grand-daughter of legendary blue hen Shantha’s Choice (dam of Redoute’s Choice, Manhattan Rain and Platinum Scissors), Quench the Thirst was bought by Newgate Farm for $1.5million at the Teeley Assets Dispersal in 2014.
Finishing second in their respective trials were Impetuoso (2f Pierro x Impetuous), Galina (2f Smart Missile x Ballet D’Amour (USA) and Greyt Love (2f Denman x Greytfilly).
Impetuoso is another homebred for Mrs Belinda Bateman prepared by Peter and Paul Snowden.
Galina is a half-sister to Russian Revolution bought by the China Horse Club from the Newgate Farm draft at Magic Millions for $300,000 and is also trained by Peter and Paul Snowden.
Greyt Love is a homebred for Love Racing and is prepared by Bjorn Baker.
We wish everyone the best of luck going forward towards raceday!
