Buying in partnership with China Horse Club, Newgate Farm secured the equal highest priced weanling at the Inglis Great Southern Sale on Monday paying $310,000 for a stunning Written Tycoon colt from Many Facets.
Newgate Farm’s Henry Field told ANZ Bloodstock News that the colt compared favourably with the Written Tycoon yearling colt from Brilliant Bisc who made $1,000,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale earlier this year, and that he carried similar traits to Capitalist.
“We bought him for our colt partnership and he really reminded me of Capitalist, as he is a very similar shape of a horse and I thought he was a clear standout in the sale,” Field said.
“He is very mature and a powerful colt who is very athletic. We will break him in early (in a bid to have him educated for the start of the two year-old season in 2018).”
Newgate Farm will stand two sons of Written Tycoon this season in Capitalist and Winning Rupert and will hope for this colt to follow in their footsteps,
“We have been very fortunate to have some very good colts who are stallion prospects through our colts group and we feel this horse was a good enough animal to fit our mould,” he said.
“We very seldom buy weanlings, but I just thought that he was one of the best Written Tycoons that I have seen, and outside of the Written Tycoon – Brilliant Bisc colt that went through the Inglis Easter sales I think he is the second best one I have seen this year.
“He needs to obviously to go the right way and it is a bigger risk buying weanlings, but he is pretty forward and hopefully runs like he looks.”
Forming part of the Newgate Farm colts syndicate, he will be trained by Peter and Paul Snowden for co-owners S F Bloodstock, Winstar Farm, China Horse Club and Matthew Sandblom’s Horse Ventures.
Consigned by Bombora Downs, the colt comes with a lovely pedigree being from Commands mare Many Facets, a half-sister to Group I winner Shot of Thunder from Group I AJC Australian Oaks winner My Brilliant Star.
