Newgate Farm sires proved popular at Magic Millions with some outstanding sales for proven Group producing sire Foxwedge and a warm response for newcomers Sizzling, The Factor (USA) and Eurozone.
Engaged in a tight battle for supremacy on the Australian Second Season Sires List with Smart Missile, Foxwedge edged out his archrival in the sale ring with 19 yearlings averaging $120,526.
Foxwedge scored his biggest hit with the full sister to stakes-winner Kentucky Miss that made $475,000 for Luskin Park when secured by DGR Thoroughbred Services, who also paid $240,000 for a Foxwedge filly from Moonboat offered by Vinery Stud.
Star Thoroughbreds, who bought Foxwedge’s Group II winning daughter Foxplay from this sale in 2015, paid $185,000 for a lovely filly from Makybe Diva’s half-sister Optimist offered by Milburn Creek for Makybe.
Of the newcomers, US shuttler The Factor had the single best result with a colt from stakes-winner Fill the Page fetching $240,000 for Edinburgh Park to the bid of Spendthrift Farm.
His average on nine yearlings sold was $110,000 and he also posted a highlight lot in Book 2 with a colt from Emerald Knight selling for $200,000.
Sizzling youngsters proved in hot demand with all 15 offered in Book 1 being sold at an average $110,883.
He had three colts from Love’s Great, Mia Cat Dancer (USA) and Miss Judged (NZ) all sell for $200,000, the trio set to enters the stables of Peter and Paul Snowden, Michael Freedman and Gerald Ryan.
Eurozone had the highest average of the three young stallions with five youngsters averaging $116,000 and the top seller a colt from Red Rhonda that made $210,000 for Noralla Stud when secured by the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
All three young stallions as well as Foxwedge have significant drafts at the upcoming 2017 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in Sydney on Feburary 11, 12 and 13.
