Deep Field has been making the news on the first season sire front, but on Saturday Wandjina got in on the act with two stakes horses in Melbourne and Dissident produced a smart winner at Kembla.
The Listed MRC Redoute’s Choice Stakes at Caulfield proved an attractive assignment for promising Tony McEvoy trained Wandjina colt Grand Scholar, who looked the winner a furlong from home before being run down late by Missile Mantra to be beaten less than a length, with another Wandjina youngster in Express Pass holding down third place.
Stakes-placed at his only run in the spring, Grand Scholar has shown plenty of talent in his three starts to date and a win cannot be far away.
Opening her account with a brilliant front-running win at Kembla was the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Dissident filly Yitai Synergy. She led her older rivals a merry dance and with this confidence building win under her belt at just her third start, she can be winning better races.
A $260,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for Snowden Racing, Yitai Synergy runs for China Horse Club and Yitai Racing and is the second winner from Lonhro mare Longing, a daughter of Group III winner Hinting.
