Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds have been enjoying a hot winning run and it continued at Rosehill last Saturday with a smart win for three year-old Sebring filly Pioneering, a $90,000 Magic Millions purchase from the draft of Newgate Farm.
Trained by Chris Waller, Pioneering ended a frustrating run of minor placings with a determined half neck win over 1200 metres as favourite.
With three wins and seven placings from 14 starts, Pioneering has won over $190,000 in prizemoney for her big team of Star owners.
A filly with a big international pedigree, Pioneering is the second winner for Soothe (USA), a half-sister to US Group II winner Conserve and grand-daughter of celebrated matriarch Fanfreluche, the ancestress of champion sires Flying Spur and Encosta de Lago.
It was nearly a winning double for Star with their Newgate Farm purchases as Foxwedge filly Foxplay was beaten narrowly in the opening race.
With a Rosehill win and two close second placings this preparation, Foxplay has already won nearly $100,000 in prizemoney
