The inaugural Inglis Chairman’s Sale featured a select entry of quality weanlings that produced strong results with 18 youngsters selling at an average $151,944 with a colt by Newgate Farm’s Australian Guineas winner Wandjina the top seller.
Consigned for sale by Newgate Farm, the Wandjina colt is a three-quarter brother to this season’s Group I winner Russian Revival and is the sixth foal from Ballet D’Amour (USA), who is also the dam of Group III winner Turbo Lady.
The star colt purchased by the China Horse Club for $335,000.
A standout on type and pedigree, he was bred by Mrs Belinda Bateman, who raced Wandjina with her late husband Dr Edmund Bateman.
The second highest priced weanling provided a great result for another of the Newgate first season sires with a Deep Field colt from Impetuous selling for $250,000.
Consigned by Newgate and purchased by Randwick Bloodstock, the colt is the second foal of young stakes-winning Fastnet Rock mare Impetuous.
A record breaking son of Northern Meteor, Deep Field also had a colt from Uncommon fetch $180,000 for Newhaven Park when snapped up by David Lucas Bloodstock as agent for Phoenix Thoroughbred.
Newgate Farm’s third young gun Dissident also made a pleasing impression with four youngsters offered and sold at an average $132,500.
The top seller for Australian Horse of the Year Dissident was this colt from Djinda that made $180,000 for Fairhill Farm when purchased by Fernrigg Farm.
Newgate Farm also had the honour of selling the top priced broodmare at the Chairman’s Sale with Queensland Oaks winner Provocative selling for $1.2 million to Paul Willetts Bloodstock on behalf of Three Bridges Thoroughbreds.
She was offered in foal to Tavistock in her first season at stud.
Newgate Farm were also active as buyers featuring in a new venture, the Newstar Partnership that brings together Newgate with WinStar and Kingstar Farms.
The Newstar Partnership was the leading buyer securing eight lots headed by $1million purchase Flame of Sydney, who is likely to visit Capitalist this spring.
The dam of Group I ATC Sires Produce Stakes winner Invader and top class HK sprinter Not Listenin’tome, Flame of Sydney was offered in foal to Medaglia D’Oro (USA).
