The end of the flat season in GB/ Ireland is fast approaching and Newgate Farm’s Foxwedge has risen to second on the leading first season sire list by winners following an overnight success at Windsor for short priced favourite Foxcatcher.
The Clive Cox trained filly improved at her first run in blinkers to win the five furlong maiden by two and a half lengths.
“This was a good opportunity for Foxcatcher to get the show on the road. Hopefully she will strengthen up over the winter and develop into a nice filly as a 3yo,” said Clive Cox.
Foxcatcher is the 14th winner for Foxwedge in Great Britain / Ireland putting him second on the leading first crop sires list behind only Sir Prancealot with Frankel in third place.
He has sired 18 first crop winners throughout the Northern Hemisphere also posting winners in France, Sweden and the US.
In Australia, his progeny have jumped out of the ground as three year-olds with star fillies Foxplay and Kentucky Miss posting stakes wins this season so there is little doubt there will be more to come from Foxwedge in the Northern Hemisphere in 2017.
Foxwedge stands this spring at a fee of $22,000.
