Scoring a brilliant debut victory at Moonee Valley on Friday night was exciting prospect Zamzam, a $920,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Shadwell Australia from the draft of Newgate Farm.
Prepared by David Hayes and Tom Dabernig, Zamzam settled off the pace and unleashed a powerful finish to overhaul the well fancied leaders and win the 1000 metre scamper running away by two lengths.
“She was very impressive and we’ve always had an opinion of her,” said stable representative Gary Fennessy.
“When you get back here you normally have no hope, but she was just too good for them.
“The Blue Diamond is the aim if she pulls up well.”
Winning rider Damian Lane was also delighted with the two year-old daughter of champion sire Redoute’s Choice.
“She was brilliant!” he said.
“When she let rip, she picked them up really quick. There’s plenty of improvement left in her.”
Bred by SF Bloodstock, Zamzam is the first winner for Group I placed Dehere (USA) mare Fleur De’here, a sibling to Group I winner Tully Thunder and stakes-winner Sufficient from Group II winner Fleur de Chine.
Zamzam comes from a family that has achieved global success producing Group I winners Black Mamba, Roman Emperor and Glorious Days.
Fleur De’here produced a filly by Fastnet Rock last spring and was then covered by Snitzel.
