Royally bred two year-old filly Mica Be The One was given status as the Breednet ‘One to Watch’ on Wednesday after saluting on debut at Morphettville.
Prepared by Phillip Stokes, Mica Be The One did best in a tight finish, charging home from back in the field to win the 1000 metre maiden by a short half head.
A daughter of Darley shuttler Bernardini (USA), Mica Be The One runs for Matthew Sandblom(Newgate and Kingstar Farm) and Henry Field (Newgate Farm) and is the first foal of former brilliant Group II winner Varenna Miss.
A half-sister by Redoute’s Choice to $7million earner and four-time Group I winner Criterion, Varenna Miss was bought privately from her owner Glenn Fraser in 2014 along with Mica Be The One, who was then a weanling.
She produced a Sebring colt for Sandblom and Field at Newgate Farm before being re-offered at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale last year by Newgate in foal to Pierro.
She proved a showstopper!
Emirates Park purchased Varenna Miss for $1million and she produced a lovely colt for them last spring by Pierro and will foal again this year to I Am Invincible.
Mica Be The One is potentially a very valuable broodmare prospect given her pedigree and she has a strong connection for her owners given Criterion makes his debut for Newgate Farm this spring and another close family member in Group II winner Bull Point is set to stand at Kingstar Farm.
