The $200,000 Magic Millions 2YO Classic at Wyong on Thursday produced a record breaking win for the red hot favourite Capitalist, who bolted clear to win as he pleased in the James Harron Bloodstock colours.
The handsome chestnut son of Written Tycoon won the Listed ATC Breeders Plate on debut in the spring and paraded in impressive fashion before the race, running right up to his good looks and the high expectation of punters.
Well prepared by Peter and Paul Snowden, Capitalist was content to let the Victorian visitor Claro El Banco lead, but when Blake Shinn asked him for an effort, he was in a class of his own.
Capitalist dashed clear to beat his stablemate Niccolance by two and three-quarter lengths with talented Foxwedge filly Aghna giving a strong hint of her potential with a fine third on debut.
They covered the 1100 metres in 1: 03:23 breaking the previous race record set by Unencumbered, who went on to win the $2million Magic Millions 2YO Classic in 2013.
“It was a good result, he had a perfect run,” said Peter Snowden.
“The way he is at the moment, he should get to the Gold Coast in great order.”
Winning rider Blake Shinn was delighted with Capitalist.
“He oozes class and was always in control,” he said.
“He has that x-factor about him and is a pleasure to deal with.”
A $165,000 Magic Millions purchase for James Harron Bloodstock/ Snowden Racing from the Daandine Stud draft, Capitalist has now won two from two earning close to $220,000 and runs for a big syndicate including James Harron Bloodstock and Newgate Farm.
