A record breaking 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale Book One produced strong results for first season sires with Newgate Farm’s Deep Field the division leader by aggregate with his 29 yearlings selling for $3,474,500 giving him the greatest aggregate of all stallions represented at this sale.
Deep Field’s archrival and stablemate Dissident had a slight edge over him by average with 21 yearlings average $121,071, while his barn-mate had 29 average $119,810.
Both stallions had a high-water mark of $300,000 for their offspring, Dissident achieving his best result with a colt from Future Saint (USA) that was bought by George Moore Bloodstock from the Newgate Farm draft, while Deep Field starred with his colt from Uncommon that made $300,000 for Lucas Bloodstock when secured by McEvoy Mitchell Racing/ Blue Sky Bloodstock.
Both colts were highly successful pinhooks for their respective vendors.
The Dissident colt from Future Saint was bought by Newgate Farm as a weanling at the inaugural Inglis Chairman’s Sale for $160,000 from the Rothwell Park draft, while the Deep Field colt from Uncommon was bought by David Lucas Bloodstock as agent for Phoenix Thoroughbred from the Newhaven Park draft at the same sale for $180,000.
Queensland-based David Lucas was well pleased with the result.
“That was pretty close to what we were expecting for the horse, he’s a very nice horse and is probably one of the better walking horses we have here. Everyone seemed to like him, we had a lot of hits on the x-rays and we were hoping to get around that figure for him,” Lucas told ANZ Bloodstock News.
“Newgate is doing the right thing supporting the stallion and their $100,000 bonus is not doing any harm. He seems to sell well in the ring and they all seem to like him.”
Tony McEvoy bought the colt in partnership with Blue Sky Bloodstock and believes he will be a chance to run in the $2million Inglis Millennium next year.
“I like the Deep Fields for a start and the colt is a very bright horse with great quality and a tremendous eye,” McEvoy told ANZ.
“He has got all the things that I like, really, and he is a horse that will be up and running and will be a chance to get to the $2,000,000 race.”
The Dissident colt from Future Saint is destined for Hong Kong.
“From what I have seen they have a good head on them and have a good temperament. They haven’t really done anything wrong and stood up to the extensive parading,” George Moore told ANZ.
“This horse had 15 to 18 x-ray hits, so he must have been out 200 times for inspections. Every time I looked at him he didn’t put a foot wrong and that is what we want for Hong Kong.”
Wandjina also made his mark with 13 yearlings averaging $63,462, his top seller a colt from African Rain that made $170,000 for Newgate Farm when purchased by Kurt Goldman.
All purchasers of Inglis Classic yearlings by Newgate Farm first season sires Deep Field, Dissident and Wandjina will be eligible to win our $100,000 bonus should one of these yearlings return to win the $2million Inglis Millennium race next year.
