Scoring a brilliant debut win in South Africa at Turffontein on Saturday was blue-blooded two year-old Redoute’s Choice filly Shaama, a $450,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Shadwell Australia from the draft of Newgate Farm.
Trained by Mike de Kock for Shadwell, Shaama won over 1160 metres as favourite by a length and three-quarters.
Bred by SF Bloodstock, Shaama is a three-quarter sister to Group III winner Jazz Song being the second winner from Group I winner Absolut Glam.
Purchased as a broodmare prospect in 2010 at Magic Millions for $950,000, Absolut Glam did not have a yearling for the sales this year, but is now back in foal to Jazz Song’s sire Fastnet Rock.
Shadwell Australia were the biggest buyers at the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and their most expensive purchase this year at $920,000 was a stunning Redoute’s Choice filly from our draft out of Group I placed Fleur de’Here.
