Our exciting young sire Deep Field wasted no time posting his first winner of the new season with a tenacious victory at Kembla on Saturday for progressive three year-old Chat.
The John Thompson trained gelding didn’t have much luck in his first three starts, but ridden a positive race from gate three he was up on the pace all the way and strong to the line winning the 1400 metre open maiden by half a neck.
A $130,000 Magic Millions purchase for his trainer from the Canning Downs draft, Chat is the 22nd first crop winner for Deep Field and is his first of the new season.
Chat is a half-brother to Group II winner Holy Snow and is the eighth winner from good producing Group II winner Only Words.
Deep Field is going to be super busy again this spring at a fee of $44,000.
