Newgate Farm had a lot of reasons to be happy following the 2015 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, not the least being the $2.2 million sale-topper this year is a full brother to our exciting young sire Sizzling.
An expensive yearling himself, and a Group I winner at two, Sizzling was very popular last spring covering 175 mares at a fee of $16,500 and those breeders with mares in foal to him would be well pleased to see the strength of his pedigree validated in such spectacular fashion.
Also giving the Newgate team cause for celebration was the performance of our foundation sire Foxwedge, whose first yearlings sold exceptionally well with 16 averaging $222,500.
Top seller for Foxwedge was his stunning dark brown filly from Group I winner The Party Stand that made $560,000 for Segenhoe Stud when bought by BBA Ireland, while not far behind was a glorious grey filly from Group II winner De Lago Mist that made $440,000 for Three Bridges Thoroughbreds when secured by Astute Bloodstock.
His colts also proved popular with Newgate Farm selling a three-quarter brother to Group III winner Bull Point from Rose of Cimmaron for $425,000 to China Horse Club/Michael Wallace Bloodstock, while Queensland based Canning Downs Stud got a great result from their colt from Group II winner Te Akau Coup that made $360,000 when bought by Shadwell Australia.
On average, Foxwedge returned 6.7 times his 2012 service fee of $33,000 at this sale providing a handsome return for his supporters.
