Newgate Farm’s exciting young sire Super One looks poised for early success this season with a number of precocious juveniles showing up at early trials and jump outs including Super One Susie, while Deep Field made his mark at the official Sydney two year-old trials on Monday producing the fastest colt to trial in Nitrous.
The Claire Cunningham trained Super One Susie stepped out in the first fillies heat at Randwick and did everything right to track the leaders on the fence before finding the line strongly to finish a close second under Jason Collett.
“She bounced away well and we just wanted to take a sit on her as we just wanted to give her a good education and a good experience,” Collett said.
“She was travelling well at the furlong and when she got room late, worked home well, so we’re very happy with her.”
A $120,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Willow Park draft for Dalziel Rcg/Peter Moody/Clare Cunningham, Super One Susie is a half-sister to last season’s Group III placed juvenile Hurricane Hawker being from Bernarsini, a placed half-sister to Group III winners Ulmann and Mahisara.
Super One is set to have his first runner at Flemington on Wednesday when the Hayes Dabernig trained filly Sundus lines up in a 900 metre dash that is the first juvenile race of the season in Victoria.
A $130,000 Magic Millions purchase for Shadwell from the Lime Country Thoroughbreds draft, Sundus has shown good ability in a recent Flemington jumpout and is the first foal of Concealment, a half-sister by Court Command to Hong Kong Classic Mile winner Self Flit.
The Peter and Paul Snowden stable produced an eye-catching winner at Randwick in Deep Field colt Nitrous, who was sharp to begin and led all the way to win comfortably by more than a length.
He clocked 50.32 seconds for his 847 metre heat which was the fastest time of all the colts.
A $450,000 Magic Millions purchase for James Harron Bloodstock from the Newgate Farm draft, Nitrous is the first foal of Group II placed Stratum mare Flamboyant Lass, a full sister to Group II winner Attention, who was also raced by James Harron Bloodstock.
Nitrous was the most expensive yearling by Deep Field sold at Magic Millions this year with his good looks obviously matched by his ability.
