Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds have enjoyed success at the highest level with Foxwedge mare Foxplay, but with that girl now enjoying a well-earned spell they have another daughter of the Newgate Farm sire to go on with over the summer.
Prepared by Chris Waller, four year-old mare Noire gave promise of better wins to come when resuming from a spell with a stylish effort at Canterbury on Friday night.
Tuned up with two recent trials, she charged to the line to win the 1100 metre Benchmark 70 event by a length.
A $135,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Star from the Highgrove Stud draft, Noire has three wins and two seconds from seven starts with prizemoney topping $106,000.
She is a half-sister to stakes-placed Global Dream, Maraatib and Valoura being the seventh winner from good producer Valadon, a half-sister to Group II winners Timbourina and Media.
Noire was the second winner on Friday for Foxwedge, who has already sired the winners of over $1.1 million this season.
