Tackling the older horses on debut is never easy, but the Joseph Ible trained Tassort filly Spice Baby made it look that way when bolting in at Moruya on Monday.
With three barrier trials under her belt, including a last start third at Rosehill when beaten less than a length, Spice Baby started the short-priced favourite.
Away well from the inside barrier, jockey Louise Day took the filly forward where she settled just off the leader Molteuno and then powered clear to win the 1020m maiden by three lengths.
Retained to race by her breeder, Spice Baby is the second winner from Ice Baby, a winning Stratum grand-daughter of Group II winner Eureka Jewel.
Spice Baby is the eighth 2YO winner this season for Tassort and they include three stakes horses in Wollzeile, Secret Sort and Statewide.
He stands this spring at a fee of $38,500.
