$800,000 Colt for Deep Field

Friday, January 10, 2020

The leading sire of three year-old winners in the country, Deep Field made a big splash at the Magic Millions on Friday when an eye-catching colt from Roulettes made $800,000 to the bid of Alan Bell, who bought and raced his sire.

Consigned by Attunga Stud, the colt is a half-brother to Group III winner Sun City and Group II placed Spin being the fifth foal of stakes-winning Flying Spur mare Roulettes.

“He was a beautiful strong horse, all the quality in the world and out of a proper mare - so why not?” Bell said.

“He didn’t hugely look like Deep Field, but he has his strength and bone. He’s got the scope and temperament, he’s by my horse, who is going so well and he is going to keep climbing up.

“I bought the first crop thinking they would become more expensive in time and that is now true. I thought he was bought for a reasonable price on the market and I was just happy to get him. He’s got everything I look for.”

Deep Field also had a big result with a colt from Lindy Lou that made $650,000 for Goodwood Farm when bought by China Horse Club/Newgate Bloodstock/Stonestreet/WinStar.
