Exciting young Newgate sire Wild Ruler has had a flying start to spring as the leading second season sire by winners (13) and the Group I winning son of Snitzel set a new benchmark for himself in the sale ring at Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale on Thursday when a colt from Icebomb sold for $600,000.
Consigned by Woodlow Equine he was the equal highest priced horse sold at this sale and also topped the list of pinhook winners having been sourced from the Mill Park draft at Magic Millions in January for $110,000.
The athletic bay colt breezed in 10.08 seconds and sold to Merrick Staunton – on behalf of HK based Lucky Owners.
“He’s a great type, a good shape and good size,” Staunton said.
“(The owner) was happy to pay. He probably paid overs, but there’s not many of them about.
“The auctioneer asked for $300,000 when he started the bidding. I knew he’d be more popular than that because of the way he breezed.”
A rapt Shenae Lowings of Woodlow Equine – offering her first Ready2Race draft with partner Sam Woods – couldn’t believe the result with a colt purchased as a yearling from Magic Millions for just $110,000.
“It’s been a great experience but I’ve loved every second of it, it’s really exciting,’’ Lowings said.
“It’s turned out really well and is definitely something we’ll keep doing.
“The Wild Ruler colt has been amazing to deal with, he’s got a great attitude and I see big things for him.’’
This colt becomes the highest priced horse sold at auction by Wild Ruler, who stands this spring at a fee of $27,500.
