Capitalist unleashed a new stakes-winner on Cup Day when super talented three year-old filly Profit Motive scored a dominant win in the Listed WATC Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) at Ascot.
Sent out a hot favourite at her third race start following an easy victory at Belmont last month, the Mitchell Pateman trained filly gave nothing else a chance as she cruised home to win by three lengths with Holly Watson in the saddle.
The imposing Profit Margin is a monster of a filly with an engine to match and has now won two of three starts with earnings topping $83,000.
“She’s learned so much in her last two starts,” said Mitchell Pateman..
“When we sat her handy in a trial she didn’t trial as well as I thought she would, so we reverted back to riding her quiet, but that was a different beast today!
“She’s a bloody good horse. Robbie’s been with me since day one, he’s been my biggest supporter, he owns half of this horse. He’s had a stack in between her and now, so it’s really good for him to have another good one.
“We’ll see how she pulls up before deciding about The Champion Fillies or the WA Guineas against the boys. I wouldn’t be too scared about taking them on.”
Holly Watson jumped off Profit Motive with a big smile on her face.
“The plan wasn’t to lead today. I don’t know what happened out of the barriers, she got a bit of a bump or something and it fired her up,” she said.
“She probably was overdoing it a fraction underneath me, but when we got to the corner and I asked her to shift gears – she’s got a wicked turn of foot!”
A $20,000 Inglis Digital purchase as a yearling for her trainer, Profit Motive was bred by Rifa Mustang and is the best of two winners from two foals to race from stakes-placed Not a Single Doubt mare Maqsad, who comes from the family of seven time Group I winner Grand Armee.
It’s a prolific Black Type family with fourth dam Voltage, the grand-dam of Australian Horse of the Year Anamoe.
Profit Motive is the 32nd stakes-winner for Capitalist, who stands at a fee of $44,000.
