The Newgate Consignment was the leading vendor at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale this week selling 58 race fillies and broodmares for a tick over $25million which was nearly a third of the aggregate of the entire sale.
Newgate are delighted and very satisfied to achieve outstanding results for our clients with eight mares in the draft selling for $1million or more and Lady Laguna was the top seller at $2.5million.
She was followed by Call Di ($2.1million), Femminile ($1.5million), Finepoint ($1.3million), Liliesformillie (USA) ($1.3million), Miss Enfield ($1.25million), Written Beauty ($1.1million), who was in foal to our Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside, and Amazonian Lass ($1million).
Group II placed Frankel mare Call Di was the highest priced mare sold on Wednesday and had an extremely valuable positive test to Extreme Choice in her first season at stud.
Purchased by Yulong, Call Di is a full sister to Group II winner Miss Fabulass, who was bought by Yulong for $1.85 million at the Magic Millions Strawberry Hill Dispersal in 2023 along with her dam, Champion 3YO Filly Samantha Miss.
Yulong also purchased Miss Enfield, another daughter of Samantha Miss, at this sale from Newgate for $1.25million.
“It’s good to be able to breed up a family and she’s by a champion sire (Frankel), out of a mare by a champion sire (Redoute’s Choice), her granddam’s by a champion sire (Zabeel) and she’s in-foal to champion sire (Extreme Choice,” said Sam Fairgray.
“She’s a lovely mare and I’m sure she’ll leave a very, very nice Extreme Choice.”
Newgate sold four mares at this sale in foal to Extreme Choice and Yulong bought three of them – Call Di ($2.1million) , Finepoint ($1.3million) and Ravisher ($900,000) with the only they didn’t purchase being Duchess, who sold to Alma Vale Thoroughbreds for $500,000.
“He’s an amazing stallion. If he didn’t have his fertility issues, he’d be a sensation,” said Sam Fairgray.
“It’d be lovely if we get a couple of colts out of the three mares in-foal to Extreme Choice, but the boss is very fond of him and we’ve got his dam at the farm at home as well, so we’ve got a few sisters to Extreme Choice.”
