Sent off a short-priced favourite to make a winning career debut in a two-year-old handicap over 1250 metres at Taree on Friday, the Clare Cunningham-trained Big Parade gave his supporters little cause for concern.
After being caught wide early, Corey Brown had the son of Deep Field loping along sweetly behind the leaders Rumpshaker and Furphy. When given his head, Big Parade quickly put a space on his rivals, going to the line untouched and with ears pricked to win by more than two lengths.
A $160,000 purchase by the Summer’s family out of the Middlebrook Valley Lodge draft at the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Big Parade is the third foal and second winner out of the winning Fastnet Rock mare Crystal Rock, a half-sister to stakes-winner Zizou, who was runner-up in the Group I Golden Slipper and Group I Blue Diamond Stakes. This is the family of Snippets, Not A Single Doubt and Oohood.
Deep Field moved to 18 winners with the success of Big Parade, equalling the effort of his sire Northern Meteor.
