Newgate Farm’s exciting young sire Foxwedge has a growing tally of winners in both hemispheres and featured overnight with a debut victory in the UK at Yarmouth for promising filly Urban Fox.
Trained by James Tate, Urban Fox was well fancied and moved clear to win the six furlong maiden by a length and a half.
Urban Fox is the fifth winner for good producer Lomapamar, a half-sister to Group II winner Mons.
“We thought Urban would be in the frame, but to win was a bonus. She´s a nice filly with plenty of scope and will get 7f and maybe a mile,” said Bruce Raymond, racing manager to owner Saeed Manana.
Foxwedge very nearly had a double at Yarmouth with another his daughters Salla finishing second on debut in the other division of the juvenile maiden.
A Group I winning son of Fastnet Rock, Foxwedge is now the sire of 11 winners across both hemispheres headed by his brilliant stakes-winning filly Volpe Veloce in New Zealand, while promising gelding Diamonds Are, beaten on protest at Canterbury on Wednesday, also looms as a bright prospect for the future.
He stands the coming season at a fee of $22,000.
