Newgate Farm elected to sponsor the Listed ATC Breeders Plate at Randwick on Saturday for two year-old colts and geldings and enjoyed the dream result when colts in the Newgate ownership filled the quinella.
Victory went to the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Written Tycoon colt Capitalist, who started a short priced favourite and beat his stablemate Detective by three lengths in the 1000 metre dash.
“Wow what an outstanding performance,” said winning rider Blake Shinn.
“He won with authority, he’s an outstanding two-year-old.
“Full credit to Peter and Paul Snowden who trained him beautifully for today and well done to the guys, James Harron and Newgate Farm and a big team of owners they have put together buying these horses and I think they have found a really smart horse here.”
Bloodstock agent James Harron said it was a great start to the new venture.
“We set out to purchase some beautiful colts that would hopefully become stallion prospects. We’ve got a long way to go but it’s a lovely way to start,” Harron said.
“We’ve always gone after types, number one, first and foremost.
“He was a ripping type, very early, very precocious and just handles everything very well.
“The plan is probably for a short spell and head to the Magic Millions in January.”
A $165,000 Magic Millions purchase form the draft of Daandine Stud, Capitalist is the 12th stakes-winner for his sire Written Tycoon and is the first winner for Kitalpha, who comes from the family of Golden Slipper winner Merlene and Group I stars such as Dear Demi and Miss Pennymoney.
