The stars aligned for Newgate Farm and Extreme Choice coming into the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale with the farm trading on having raised three of the past six Golden Slipper winners and the glamour stallion producing a G1 winner from every 25 runners!
Newgate Farm was the leading vendor by average with 18 yearlings averaging $867,778 and six of those sold for a million or more and all of them were by Extreme Choice.
The top seller for Newgate was the $2million Extreme Choice colt from Giza Goddess (USA) that was knocked down to YLR / Matt Laurie Racing.
Giza Goddess was bought from the Newgate draft for $1.15 million at the 2023 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale and has gotten off to a flying start in the sale ring with her stud career.
“The stars aligned for the sale and this horse is a real dude since the day he was born and he’s just been such a cool customer he looks like a real racehorse and we always thought he was a great Extreme Choice to come to Easter and we’ve been rewarded with a top price by Mr Zhang,” said the colt’s breeder Steven O’Connor, the Director of Go Bloodstock.
“We wish him all the best going forward and hopefully he’s a great runner.
“You come in conservative and then, as the sale went on, the Extreme Choice kind of momentum has built and built and built. Then we saw the horse (Extreme Choice x Pretty Brazen) make so much money ($3million) yesterday that… You kind of have no idea how that’s going to go, but you just know it’s going to go well!
“We couldn’t be happier with the team and the job Jim (Carey) and Henry (Field) have done to get him here in one piece… it’s just surreal.”
Yulong General Manager Jun Zhang confirmed the colt will be trained by Matt Laurie, who has achieved G1 success for Yulong with Treasurethe Moment and Vinrock.
Extreme Choice was the leading sire by average with nine yearlings averaging an astonishing $1,561,111.
He topped the sale with the Lime Country Thoroughbreds consigned colt from Pretty Brazen that sold for $3million to Tom Magnier making him the highest priced yearling sold in Australia in 2026.
Of the 26 individual million dollar yearlings sold at Inglis Easter this year, seven were by Extreme Choice, a remarkable achievement when you consider his well-documented fertility issues.
Our unwavering belief in this stallion has required years of commitment from his supporters and we thank everyone involved in his care and management for making Extreme Choice into the stallion of dreams.
