Fresh off a couple of very promising trial performances in Sydney and Melbourne on Monday for the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Volpino and the Brent Stanley trained Literate, Foxwedge gelding Vulpini blew away a smart field of juveniles at the Gold Coast on Tuesday morning.
Prepared on the track by Melissa Leitch, Vulpini strode clear to win his 900 metre trial hard held by three and a half lengths in a dominant display.
A $180,000 Magic Million purchase, Vulpini is bred to be up and going early being from stakes-placed Powerful Light, who won twice at two and earned Black Type as a juvenile in the Listed QTC CE McDougall Stakes before Christmas.
Powerful Light has a Foxwedge yearling filly to follow and is due to foal to another of the Newgate sires in Sizzling.
Peter and Paul Snowden were well pleased with the run of promising colt Volpino, who found the line strongly at Randwick to finish third to the Godolphin runner Morton’s Fork.
A $300,000 Magic Millions purchase for James Harron Bloodstock/ Snowden Racing from the Newgate Farm draft, Volpino is from stakes-placed Bright Heart, who has another yearling filly to follow by Foxwedge.
Brent Stanley was equally happy with his Foxwedge fily Literate, who was beaten less than half a length in finishing second at the Cranbourne trials.
A $185,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for Cloud 9 Thoroughbreds, Literate is from Easy to Read, a half-sister by Encosta de Lago to Group II winner Trusting.
Easy to Read also has another yearling filly by Foxwedge and will foal again to him this spring.
Kelly Schweida is another trainer sporting a smile following the early trials after his Foxwedge filly She’s a Foxy Lady finished second of eight at Deagon on Tuesday morning beaten less than a length.
A $115,000 Magic Millions purchase, She’s a Foxy Lady is the first living foal of stakes-winner Plain Magic, who will foal again to Foxwedge this spring.
“Combining all of these results with that of Rosehill trial winner Chain Shot and the ultra-impressive breeze up performance of Nolan Racings colt from Heigl (he breezed in 10.16) at Seymour last week, paints an extremely encouraging early picture for Foxwedge,” said Henry Field.
“He is certainly looking like a sire that is going to make an impact.”
A brilliant Group I winning son of Fastnet Rock, Foxwedge stands at a fee of $27,500.
