The $500,000 Group II WATC Karrakatta Plate is the premier event for juveniles in Western Australia with Deep Field gelding Dig Deep surging late to score a neck win in the 1200 metre feature.
Trained by Daniel and Ben Pearce and ridden by Jarrod Noske, Dig Deep improved off his last start fourth in the Listed WATC Perth Stakes to arrive with a well timed run and claim victory.
“You go to the sales to buy a horse and get a group of people together… this is what you dream about,” said Daniel Pearce.
A $100,000 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale purchase from the Gold Front Thoroughbreds draft for Pearce Racing, Dig Deep has won two of three starts earning over $310,000 in prizemoney.
Bred by Alan and Sue Olive’s Gold Front Thoroughbreds, Dig Deep is the first foal of Lucky Ana, a winning half-sister to Group III winner Estelle Collection, the dam of Australian Horse of the Year Lankan Rupee.
He is the second stakes-winner for Northern Meteor’s brilliant sprinting son Deep Field joining Cosmic Force.
Deep Field has half a dozen entries for the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
