Newgate shuttler State of Rest (IRE) is on the board with his first winner after talented filly Anad scored a dazzling last to first win on debut at Wolverhampton in the UK overnight.
Trained by Karl Burke, Anad was sent off as favourite for the 7f juvenile contest and unleashed a brilliant finish for Clifford Lee to charge home and win by a long head over Shadwell Stud homebred Mohaymenah.
Nice performance!

Anad topped the Goffs Orby Book 2 Yearling Sale when selling for €150,000 to Federico Barberini for Mrs Alanood Althani and is the fourth winner from four foals to race from stakes-placed Sea the Stars mare Duchess of Danzig, who won up to 2200m.
Anad has plenty of stamina through her female family as her dam is a three-quarter-sister to stakes-winner Samahram from Champion German 2YO Filly Djumama.
State of Rest is the best son of Starspangledbanner, who recently had a red letter day when he sired the winners of both the Group I Irish 2000 Guineas and 1000 Guineas with Gstaad and Precise.
State of Rest is due back at Newgate this spring from Rathbarry Stud in Ireland and will have his first runners here next season with his yearlings selling for up $425,000 and set to enter many of Australia’s leading stables.
State of Rest is priced at $22,000 this spring.
