I Am Invincible’s good looking son King’s Gambit produced a great result for Tasmanian based vendors Armidale Stud when they sold a colt by the young Newgate sire for $210,000 at the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale on Friday.
The fourth foal of stakes-placed Flying Krupt, the colt was snapped up by Blue Gum Farm / Suman Hedge Bloodstock and is a half-brother to Tasmanian 2YO sensation Aristopolos.
The St Mark’s Basilica (Fr) colt has been untouchable in Tasmania this season winning all of his six starts including two listed races with prizemoney topping $336,000.
Trained by John Blacker, Aristopolos got better and better with every start and his last three wins came with a collective winning margin of 18 lengths suggesting this colt can ultimately make his mark on the mainland.
“This colt certainly had his admirers,” Armidale Stud’s David Whishaw told ANZ News.
“He’s a beautiful, strong, forward colt, and well-muscled. He’s similar to his brother, but stronger. His brother was a big, strong horse, but he probably lacked a bit of hind quarter and was weaker through the hocks. Whereas this guy’s got a great hind quarter, stronger through the hocks, and we just felt he was a great representation of a first season sire.
“There was a King’s Gambit weanling that was bought [by Jim Carey] for $265,000 up in Sydney, and with his brother being undefeated in six starts, we once again felt it would do no harm to showcase this colt as a weanling.”
Armidale Stud enjoyed 100% clearance selling all four weanlings offered at an average of $201,250 to be the leading vendor at this sale by average!
