As we move into the back end of the racing season Newgate based first season sire Wild Ruler is surging forward and added a ninth first crop winner to his tally on Wednesday with an encouraging victory at Caulfield for Vivid Storm.
There was drama at the gates before the start of the open juvenile event over 1200m, but the Lindsay Park trained Vivid Storm kept his composure while one runner broke through the gates and another refused to load.
Vivid Storm put all that aside and travelled well for Harry Coffey back in the field and after looming up out wide on the turn, he went right on with the job to reel in his rivals and win by three-quarters of a length at his second race start.
Vivid Storm franked the form of promising Tiger of Malay colt Obambulate having finished second to him at a Saturday meeting at Caulfield last month.

Harry Coffey was impressed with the colt and believes his calm temperament will take him a long way.
“That’s something we can use going forward, knowing he can go to the races and behave himself, saving the effort and the energy for when you need it at the end,” Coffey said.
“He’s actually a nice horse.
“He’s got a lovely stride, he uses himself well and covers the ground easily.”
A $60,000 Magic Millions purchase for Blueblood Thoroughbreds/Lindsay Park Racing from the draft of Aristia Park, Vivid Storm runs for a big ownership group and has already banked over $71,000 from his first two starts.
Vivid Storm is the second winner from Sing a Rainbow (IRE), a winning half-sister by Frankel to Group II winner Lavender’s Blue and stakes-winner Moomba from Group III winner Beatrice Aurore.
It’s a European female family not short on class or stamina which bodes well for the future of Vivid Storm.
Wild Ruler now sits in equal first place at the top of the Australian First Season Sire List by winners with nine on the board from 28 starters.
A Group I winning sprinter by Snitzel, Wild Ruler stands this spring at a fee of $27,500.
