Newgate Farm enjoyed outstanding results at the 2016 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale selling 11 youngsters in Session I for $5,545,000 at an average $504,091 to finish third on the leading vendors by average list and first of those based in the Hunter Valley with three or more sold.
Newgate sold the most expensive yearling by Fastnet Rock at this sale on Tuesday when the Rose of Cimmaron colt fetched $1.2 million and followed up on Wednesday with a lovely Fastnet Rock filly from Group II winner Kosi Bay that made $950,000.
She was bought by John Chalmers Bloodstock and will join the stable of Team Hawkes.
“She’s just an outstanding filly,” Michael Hawkes told ANZ Bloodstock News. “She has a great walk, good attitude, very athletic and we thought probably one of the picks of the sale yard.”
Bred by SF Bloodstock and foaled and raised at Newgate Farm, the filly has been bought for existing clients of the stable.
“She has been bought for Perth clients who race Entirely Platinum with us, so we have had a bit of luck for them,” Hawkes said.
“We were prepared to probably go for a bit more. They fell in love with her and we loved her so it was a good jelling.”
Kosi Bay was covered last year by Snitzel’s Group I winning son Wandjina.
Newgate Farm also sold a further seven yearlings for $592,500 in Session II to conclude a highly successful sale.
We congratulate all successful purchasers and wish everyone to best of luck going forward.
