Extreme Choice is the most expensive sire in the land this spring and for his many fans he does have some more affordable sire sons to choose from and one of those is Tiger of Malay, who has some promising youngsters including Apex Predator.
Trained by Matthew Hosted and ridden by Jag Guthmann-Chester, Apex Predator was sent off as favourite for the 1350m juvenile contest following a stylish debut win at the same track last month.
She led and controlled the race from the front and gave a good kick off the turn before sticking on well to the line to win by the best part of a length.

Apex Predator was a modest $35,000 Inglis Classic purchase from Glenlogan Park for Proven Thoroughbreds / Matt Hoysted Racing and has banked over $86,000 plus QTIS bonuses from her first two starts.
“She’s done a really good job in her first racing prep,” said Matt Hoysted.
“We were umming and ahhing about whether to give her one more run but she came through that Doomben win so well that so we’d thought we’d come here today.
“She’s done everything right and she’s very professional.
“She’ll now go to the paddock and hopefully if she can just take some natural improvement from this racing prep then she can really go on with it next time in.”
Bred by Glenlogan Park, she is a half-sister to stakes-placed Brave Danza and is the sixth winner and final foal from eight foals to race from Morganza (GB), a winning half-sister by Singspiel to Group II winner Monturani from stakes-winner Mezzogiorno, who was placed in a Group I Epsom Oaks.
Given the quality and stamina in her female family it would be no surprise to see Apex Predator get out in trip as she matures.
Apex Predator is one of six winners for Tiger of Malay and they include stakes-placed Momentslikethese, plus metro winners Obambulate, Forest King and Tigroni, who has won over $450,000 in prizemoney.
Tiger of Malay stands at Newgate at a fee of $11,000 alongside his famous sire Extreme Choice.
