Exciting young Snitzel son Wild Ruler posted his third winner of the new season when talented filly Queen Olympias saluted at Eagle Farm on Saturday, but she very nearly threw the race away.
Trained by Chris Anderson and ridden by Mark du Plessis, Queen Olympias had her first two starts last month finishing second at Ipswich on debut before winning at the Gold Coast.
Despite her good form, the filly started at 50-1 on Saturday being up in grade and taking on some handy types in the open 3YO handicap over 1000m.
Queen Olympias led for home and surged clear giving the impression she would coast to an easy win before she got inside the 100m mark and went off script when veering sharply to the left.
Her jockey did a good job to go with the filly and straighten her in a bid to regain momentum and she duly scraped in by half a length with the runner-up Run Like a Girl quick to fire in a protest.

Stewards ruled against the protest as Queen Olympias inconvenienced herself more than others at the end of the day and she exits the race with the tidy record of two wins and a second from three starts and earnings topping $70,000.
Retained to race by her breeder Glenlogan Park in partnership, Queen Olympias is the first foal of stakes-winning Rich Enuff mare Plutocrat.
Glenlogan Park were well rewarded when her second foal, a colt by Stay Inside sold at Magic Millions this year for $330,000 to China Horse Club/Newgate Bloodstock.
Queen Olympias is the third winner of the new season for Wild Ruler, a G1 winning son of Snitzel that looks great value this spring at a fee of $27,500.
