Talented Australian bred filly Primetime Emmy was the first European winner for her sire Extreme Choice when she won on debut at Deauville in July and now she is his first stakes-winner in Europe after taking out the Group III Prix Eclipse (1200m) at Chantilly on Saturday. 

Trained by Francis-Henri Graffard for her breeder Matthew Sandblom’s Hollymount Stud, Primetime Emmy came into this race off a fifth in the Group III Prix de Cabourg. 

Ridden with cover this time by Mickael Barzalona, Primetime Emmy moved up to challenge late and was strong through the line winning by a head at her third start.

“It’s quite some journey to come to Europe from Australia, but I love racing and watching the horses in France,” said Hollymount Stud’s Matthew Sandblom. 

“I like that the horses aren’t over-trained here, which can sometimes happen in Australia. I told Francis [Graffard] that the one thing Australian horses have is that quality acceleration and she showed that today. Extreme Choice makes me look like an excellent breeder when it’s simply the sire who is exceptional. At the moment, I’m focusing on broodmares capable of producing two-year-old winners.” 

Primetime Emmy is the third stakes-winner for her dam and is  a half-sister to two juvenile stakes-winners in Thurlow and Three Kings. She is from super reliable stakes-winning producer Princess Emmy (NZ), who has had 10 foals to race for nine winners. 

Princess Emmy was on-sold last May through Inglis Digital for $12,000 to Victorian based farm Lemrac Lodge and produced a colt by young Extreme Choice stallion Tiger of Malay last spring for her new owners before being covered by First Settler. 

The Tiger of Malay colt was offered at the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale by Lemrac Lodge and sold for $50,000 to A Grant. 

Primetime Emmy is a historic 20th stakes-winner for Newgate Farm’s flagship sire Extreme Choice, who stands this spring at a fee of $385,000.
