Founded by Henry Field in 2010, Newgate began with just a handful of mares on a 250-acre leased property. After travelling extensively through the world’s major racing and breeding jurisdictions and working alongside some of the globe’s leading bloodstock operators, Henry set out with a clear vision: to build Australia’s leading stallion operation.
That vision quickly gathered momentum. In 2012, just two years after its inception, Newgate acquired Group 1- winning sprinter Foxwedge, marking the establishment of the Newgate stallion division. Continued growth soon saw the operation outgrow its original leased property, and in 2013 Newgate expanded further with the purchase of the historic Brooklyn Lodge Stud, a farm renowned for producing Golden Slipper winners, Classic winners and Cup winners.
Today, Newgate stands as one of Australia’s premier stallion operations and thoroughbred nurseries, encompassing approximately 1,700 acres of prime Hunter Valley land. The farm is home to a powerful and diverse roster of elite stallions, led by Extreme Choice, widely regarded as one of Australia’s most accomplished stallions on performance and statistics alike.
The growth of Newgate over the past decade has been exponential, underpinned by a commitment to integrity, innovation and excellence. Above all, it is built on the strength of its people and the quality of its stallions and bloodstock, foundations that continue to drive Newgate forward in 2026 and beyond.
At Newgate, It’s Possible.
