Sentimental Legend out the writing on the wall last start when winning the $125,000 Listed WATC Melvista Stakes (2200m) and upped the ante at Ascot on Saturday with a dominant victory in the $400,000 Group II WATC WA Derby (2400m).
Trained by Grant and Alana Williams, Sentimental Legend was ridden a confident race by Willie Pike and after turning for home was quick to put paid to WA Oaks winner Wonderfully Made, who was making play in front.

Bred by his trainers, Sentimental Legend has four wins and two placings from six starts with prizemoney topping $386,000.
Sentimental Legend is a half-brother to stakes winner Sentimental Hero and stakes -placed Sentimental Friend and Sentimental Flame being the second SW among seven winners from eight foals to race from grand producer Sentimental Star.
He is the last foal of Sentimental Star, who sadly passed away in 2023. She came from a prolific family of WA stakes winners including Group I winner Galaxy Star.
Sentimental Legend is the fourth stakes-winner for Brutal, who stands at Newgate Farm and covered 125 mares last spring.
