Greg and Jo Griffin of Lime Country Thoroughbreds know value when they see it and took a punt on well bred three year-old Extreme Choice filly Mimi’s when she was offered at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale this year in the Newgate Consignment.

They secured the filly for $240,000 and transferred her to the care of Brisbane trainer Jack Bruce after four previous starts for the Waterhouse Bott stable that produced a lone second placing at Wyong.

Tuned up with a recent trial win, Mimi’s was fit and ready to fire in the 1000m metro 3YO maiden at Eagle Farm on Wednesday and led throughout to score by a length and a half.

Jack Bruce was thrilled to achieve the goal of getting a win on the board for Mimi’s before she heads to stud this spring.

“She’s done a super job, and she’s a filly with good speed, and she showed that in her trials and jump outs for me,” said Jack Bruce.

“She came to me in really good order, and she’s been able to carry that over 1000 metres today, which is really important.

“It’s a valuable metropolitan win for a filly with a really good pedigree as she’s a half-sister to King’s Gambit, so she will go to stud now and she’s a metro winner and a fast filly so hopefully she passes it on to her progeny.”

Mimi’s was originally a $525,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Newgate and is a filly with a big pedigree being a half-sister to Group II winner King’s Gambit from Group III winner Sultry Feeling.

She is the fifth winner from seven to race from Sultry Feeling and is the second winner for the mare in the past week as her two year-old Organised Crime (c I Am Invincible) won on debut at Sale on Sunday.
