Four yearlings by Newgate Farm’s champion sire Extreme Choice were always billed as a standout for the MM National Weanling Sale this week and his filly from Volks Lightning sold for $580,000 on Monday and today the remaining three youngsters were all sold with the colt from Coco as in Chanel (USA) the highlight.
A full brother to smart Sydney metro winner Pimlico, who made $1.2million at Inglis Easter in 2024, this quality bay colt foaled on December 13 sold for $400,000 to Michael Freedman Racing/Darby Racing/Andrew Williams Bloodstock.
Freedman is a fan of Extreme Choice having trained his Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside and last Saturday’s Group II BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Berzelius, not to mention Tiger of Malay, who also won the BRC Sires and is now on the Newgate roster.
He also puts the polish on Extreme Choice’s Group I ATC Flight Stakes winner Apocalyptic, so whether they are colts or fillies, Freedman certainly knows what makes them tick.
An astute syndicator renowned for finding value, Scott Darby was thrilled with the purchase.
“What’s not to like about buying an Extreme Choice colt,” Darby Racing’s Scott Darby said. “The way he’s going – he’s dominating, he’s world class.
“Michael and myself just loved this colt. We have some very good clients to put into him.
“Being a late December foal there’s plenty of improvement (to come).
“This sale has always been a good one for Darby Racing. We’ve had a lot of success out of here including Group winners Irithea and Dark Eyes and many others.”
Two more yearlings by Extreme Choice were also sold with a filly from Iron Mizz (USA) making $250,000 when bought by Own a Hair, while the filly from Artemis Rose made $200,000 when secured by Linsheng Zhang, China.
